ABOUT KIDNEY EQUITY INITIATIVE
Building Kidney Health Knowledge Before Disease Begins.
Kidney Equity Initiative is an education-focused nonprofit working to make evidence-based kidney health information understandable and accessible. Through educational programs, community engagement, and adaptable learning resources, we help students and communities better understand kidney function, chronic kidney disease, risk factors, prevention, and early awareness.
Our work is built around a simple idea: access to understandable health information can help people make more informed decisions about their health.
OUR MISSION
Why We Exist.
Kidney Equity Initiative works to expand access to understandable, evidence-based kidney health education. We equip students and communities with knowledge about kidney function, chronic kidney disease, risk factors, prevention, and early awareness while developing educational approaches that can be adapted to the communities they serve.
The Idea Behind Kidney Equity Initiative
Kidney disease is often discussed after it has already become a medical problem. Kidney Equity Initiative was created around a different question: what if kidney health education began earlier?
We believe young people should have opportunities to understand how their kidneys work, what can place kidney health at risk, and why prevention and early awareness matter. That idea became the foundation for educational resources and community programs designed to make kidney health information easier to understand and use.
Education is not the end of prevention—but it can be where prevention begins.
03 — Community-Responsive
Programs can be adapted to different audiences, learning environments, and community contexts while preserving core health information.
OUR APPROACH
Education Built Around Evidence, Access, and Community.
Our approach combines accurate kidney health information with education designed to be understandable, adaptable, and useful in real learning environments.
01 — Evidence-Based
Educational content is grounded in established kidney health and disease-prevention information from credible health sources.
We aim not only to expand the reach of kidney health education, but to continually improve how effectively it is taught.
02 — Understandable
We translate complex health concepts into clear educational materials that students and community members can engage with.
04 — Measurable
Educational assessments and participant feedback help us understand what people are learning and identify opportunities to improve our programs.
LEADERSHIP
The People Behind the Mission.
Kidney Equity Initiative is led by individuals committed to expanding access to accurate, understandable kidney health education and strengthening the way our programs serve students and communities.

Aseelah Ahmed is the founder and executive director of Kidney Equity Initiative. Her interest in kidney health grew through two years of chronic kidney disease research in a laboratory at the University of Pennsylvania, where she gained firsthand exposure to the science and challenges surrounding CKD. She founded Kidney Equity Initiative to bring kidney health education beyond the research setting and help young people and communities understand chronic kidney disease, its risk factors, prevention, and the importance of early awareness. As a high school student in Central Bucks, Pennsylvania, Aseelah leads the initiative's educational programming, curriculum development, community outreach, and program evaluation.
